During my time with BUTV10, I ….

worked on Pop Showdown! all 4 years. I learned TONS – from setting up lights and props to negotiation new sponsorships to keep our show running (with fun prizes)! I oversaw most of pre-production, which included freshening up the show’s format and writing the questions for each round. I currently work in Unscripted Television, so my time at Pop Showdown! taught me so much and let me practice some of what I do for work today.

Since BUTV10, I’ve…

learned how to do a very basic card trick and eaten more Munchkins than I ever did at BU.

I’ve stayed primarily in Unscripted/Alternative television – working for ABC, ABC News, and now NBC! I currently work with the Executive Producer of America’s Got Talent who also has a development deal with Universal Television. It’s really great because get to split my time on both sides: production and development. One day I could be on the AGT set helping with the logistics of a card trick (while eating Munchkins, #agtrunsondunkin) and then the next – in the development office putting a deck together for a pitch meeting (honestly, still probably eating Munchkins…).

My advice to current BUTV10 students is…

take advantage of every opportunity you have to learn something new and have fun!

You never know what an open door can bring, so never shy away from an opportunity that interests you or is a passion. Your career is built, you never know who or what could be an amazing take away from an experience. Join all sorts of clubs or groups within and beyond the walls of COM, too. This industry is crazy and it’s important to have friends and interests outside entertainment (although sometimes those connections come in handy for work as well!). Lastly, have fun! YOU and your peers/friends get to make real TV, instead of having to watch from the sidelines or behind an assistant desk. It is educational but should also be a good time.

My number one lesson I’ve learned since joining the industry is…

how small the industry is. More than likely, you will end up working with/for one of your peers or “that-one-person-you-met-that-one-time-at-a-party” 🙂
